The cost of construction in remote Arctic regions is significantly impacted by the associated risks. However, AMH’s modular approach to building off-site helps mitigate these risks, including challenges related to weather conditions, mobilization and demobilization, time constraints, limited labor availability, and material scarcity. With our factory production, we can deliver homes more efficiently and affordably by reducing the risk of onsite arctic construction.

Construction projects in Nunavut usually begin with the arrival of the yearly re-supply barge, signalling the start of winter in many communities. However, even a small project like a 1200 sqft home can take up to a year to complete. In contrast, our modular approach enables us to have clients moved into a home within just 3-6 weeks from the arrival of the barges.

Being able to construct year-round in a climate-controlled environment allows us to deliver high-quality products to our clients. For the building envelope, we utilize an Insulated Composite Envelope, making our homes among the most energy-efficient units being constructed in Nunavut.

Considering the necessity for burning waste in Arctic communities, with the construction industry being a major contributor to landfills, we take pride in minimizing the waste our units generate in the communities we build in. Furthermore, our building envelope is up to 2.5 times more efficient than a 2×6 stud-framed home. This reduction in energy loss helps decrease the fuel consumption required to operate the oil-fired burners used to heat our homes during the long Arctic winter months.
